Dale Greenwood, a good family friend, wanted a Christmas gift from our mill to give his clients and neighbors. His request involved a Christmas pancake mix in a cotton bag. My wife, Barbara, made the bags and formulated the mix.
Since then, this product has become a Christmas breakfast tradition in thousands of homes and is the basis for all our other products.
During the holidays, family members, young and old, sort of gravitate toward our home. Everyone knows what to expect when they come over—most of the activity is centered in the kitchen, Christmas music plays nonstop and there’s always a lot of good food to eat.
After a big Christmas Eve dinner, we each open one present (which is always pajamas, but everyone acts surprised anyway). The children and grandchildren sleep in the basement and (sometimes) wait for the predetermined time before waking Barbara and me up to open presents Christmas morning.
After all the presents are opened we eat pancakes. Lots of pancakes. We know others are eating pancakes too because our friend Dale still gives them as Christmas presents. Christmas morning pancakes are a tradition for many families. It’s something many look forward to and Christmas morning wouldn’t be the same without them.
